Herbal Medicine
Classical Chinese Herbology
I’ve been a practitioner and user of Chinese Herbal Remedies for more than 30 years. I’ve zeroed in on eighteen ancient formulas that accommodate most of today’s maladies, from genital herpes to arthritis in the extremities and immunity build-up. The applications are directed to those ailments that can be self diagnosed. These formulas are benign in their content – all material is non-toxic and non-stressing. The herbs are inert. There is no need to stress about overdosing.
Believe it or not, these formulas have been in effective use for thousands of years. This mode of herbal treatment takes the approach that the body is the healer. Although the names and treatment theories have changed from a western medicine point of view, this ancient perspective still applies and has still been shown to be the most consistently effective treatment.
A Question of Balance
How then do they work? Some might ask how could they possibly work without being toxic? Medicine needs to overpower the enemy disease right?
In a nutshell, that about sums up a basic philosophy of western medicine. It also parallels a beginner’s perspective in most fields of endeavor. The obvious thing is to simply overpower the object of disapproval with brute force. This works in life on the obvious level. By brute force you pick up your shoes and put them on. You sweep the floor with the use of brute force. Brute force works in battle to some degree, but there are losses sustained. The intelligent general tries to find a way to win the battle with the least amount of effort or loss. Study is given to the situation. What about cutting off supply lines and starving the enemy out?
This is more along the lines of ancient medicine. The body in optimum functioning condition is considered. Then what needs to be seen is where there is an imbalance in the body. The body is a complete eco-system unto itself. Through diligent study over the course of at least one dynasty, in China the body eco-system was studied. The foundations of a comprehensive understanding of the principles of function were laid out then. This understanding is supported by eons of testimony, thousands of years up to and including these modern times. The understanding developed those many years ago through much trial and error was in dedication to discovering the balance of the body, to reduce suffering and allow the body to operate smoothly and in its inherent peace for indefinite longevity.
The Body Is the Healer
Some basic precepts were ascertained: the “Five Element Theory” and the “Mother-Son Relationship” for instance. What was discovered was how the ingestion of certain plant items impacted the balance and restoration of the function of the human eco-system. That restoration of balance was and is the goal. Once the balance is restored, the body handles whatever the seeming issue might be. At that point there really is no issue. The issue is nullified.
