Guide to Filling-Out a Credit Card Application Form
When applying for a credit card, filling out your application form is a crucial step. In reality, many applicants commit mistakes in providing information. Some may be in a rush filling out these forms while others may not really know what particular detail they are being asked to give. As a result, some people may get declined just because they failed to give the correct information that they should have given.
If you are applying for a student account, or if this will be your first time to apply, check out the following details that you may find in the application form:
Personal Details. Your complete name, residential address, telephone number, date of birth, and Social Security Number are primary details that you’ll need to provide. See to it that your first, middle and last names are spelled correctly. Make sure that you have provided the correct Street Number or House Number in your address. Also, make sure that there are no missing digits in your SSN.
Keep in mind that even a misspelled name or a missing digit in your SSN could change your identity. The credit card company may access a credit report that belongs to a different individual and that person can have a history of bad credit or even bankruptcy.
Financial Information. Under the New Credit CARD Act, consumers who are under 21 years old need to have a co-signer to be approved for a credit card. However, those who can show proof of an independent income may be able to get their own line without someone co-signing for them, even if they are under 21 years old.
Hence, this particular segment in your application is very important. See to it that you fill in the correct amount in the box where you must indicate your annual income. You will also be asked if you have an existing checking, savings or other accounts so be sure to check the appropriate boxes of the accounts that you have.
School Information. Those who are applying for a student account must provide basic information about his/her school, the address, enrolment status, etc. You will have the option to choose where you want to receive your billing statements so you can choose either you home address or your school address.
Remember, it is very important for you to receive your credit card bills and notices sent by your credit card company on time. Encoding the wrong address could mean trouble since you may not receive your mails on time or it may even get lost and never reach you.
Agreement. The last part of your application for credit card for students would be a statement with a check box. If you are filling out an online application form, checking the box would be the same as placing your signature. That means you have read and understand the Terms and Conditions of the credit card issuer and that you agree to abide by those rules.
Hence, before you check that box and before you hit the submit button, take the extra time to carefully read the Terms & Conditions page to be sure that you know what your signing up for.
