5 Fantastic Resources to Help You with Your Print Brochures
Let me share with you 5 fantastic resources that I have found that can help you in brochure printing. I usually print brochures using these resources and they have all proven quite useful, powerful and easy to use. Moreover, you’ll be glad to know that most of these fantastic resources are free. That’s right it is free! So you will not only be getting great resources for brochure printing, you’ll also be getting cost effective ones. So let me start you off with the first great resource and that is online font collections.
1. Font Collections – Font collections are one of my favorite resources for brochure printing. Sometimes I find myself spending one hour just “harvesting” fonts to test out for my brochures. There are a lot of free font collections in the Internet that you can use to get that perfect font style for your brochure theme. The best ones that I use are 1001freefonts.com, dafont.com and urbanfonts.com. These websites provide a large database of differently themed fonts classified into useful categories. I assure you that these sites should give you the best resources of fonts for your brochure printing. Visit them, use them and download those fonts. It is all for free.
2. Image/Graphic Databases – If fonts can be free, the best thing about the Internet is that images can be free too. Another great resource for brochure printing are free image and graphic databases. These image databases can provide you with the essential graphic elements in your brochure printing to make the content more effective and attractive. Sites like OpenPhoto.com, Flickr.com and other Creative Commons image databases usually have a large collection of images to choose from. I have found a lot of useful images from them that anyone use in most color brochures. Make sure though that you check the image resolution and the distribution license of these images.
In terms of resolution, the bigger the images are, the better for brochure printing. Never get small images or low resolution images as they will look fuzzy in printing. Also try to check the distribution license of the images. It is good to get only the ones with creative commons licenses so that you do not have to pay for them. You only need to attribute the work to the author.
3. Printing company websites – Printing company websites are a great resource for brochure templates. More often than not, online printing companies offer a wide variety of brochure templates in different configurations. From standard tri-fold brochures to exotic French folds and Z folds, there are a lot of free templates provided in these websites. Download some of these so that you can use them to properly format your brochure designs for professional brochure printing.
4. OpenOffice.org – If you need some free software to develop your color brochure design, one of the best places to look is OpenOffice.org. This site of course carries the powerful OpenOffice suite that has virtually all the basics that you need for desktop publishing. OpenOffice Writer and OpenOffice Draw will be your primary tools in creating your layout and creating images for brochure designs. It is all for free so there is no real monetary risk involved here.
5. Gimp – If you need hardcore image editing for your brochure printing, then I suggest GIMP. Gimp is a powerful image editing tool that is comparable to Adobe Photoshop. The good thing about Gimp though is that it is freely available for download. It is an open source application that can easily be adopted for your brochure printing process. It will take a few minutes to grow on you but it should be a boon for all your image editing needs.
Great! With those fantastic and often times free tools, you will have no problems in your brochure printing. So try them out!
