Primary Representation System | NLP Interchange Tool
The Primary Representation System, when discussed in NLP terms simply means the Representation System that one tends to access in first in communications and uses such most often.
While we all utilize all of the different Representation Systems, we also tend to “favor” one representation system above all others. We tend to think that way, act that way, talk that way, and communicate that way.
This is immensely important in both our personal and professional lives. When we come in contact with someone that we want to ‘connect” with, it will be relatively easy to connect with them IF you tend to use the predicates (words) that are most used by that type of person, and if you “model” their external behaviors too.
So, if you hear someone who is always talking about “how they feel”, while another person in the conversation is always making reference to “what they heard on the radio” (or at the water cooler, or on talk radio, etc), it would behoove you to notice the predicates each person in using and feed those same terms (and related predicates) back to them in order to get in rapport.
Next time you are immersed in communication with someone observe which predicates they are applying the most. Lead out with the same types of predicates in your conversations in order to connect with thatperson.
