The new Mercedes Roadster
The German car manufacturer Mercedes, has been producing the SLK since 1996, it is a premium small 2 seater Roadster. The SLK was one of the first cars to come with a retractable hard top roof, the only model to have this feature before the SLK was the Mitsubishi 3000GT. Since then other manufacturers have produced models with a retractable roof, model such as the Peugeot 206 CC, Lexus SC and Vauxhall Astra Twintop.
Unlike the Mercedes-Benz CLK in Portsmouth, the SLK is only available has a hard top convertible, and only has two seats. The CLK is available as a hardtop and a convertible and has the ability to seat 4 people.
Mercedes has released information about the new SLK due out in 2011, the German car maker claims the new SLK assumes a leading position in every discipline and offers fun at the wheel in every respect, with no half-hearted compromises. The new roadster is one of the most economical and environmentally friendly in its class and sets new standards in safety.
The new SLK has taken some inspiration from classic Mercedes Roadsters; it has a long bonnet and a short rear end, giving it a proper Mercedes Roadster look. Even though the SLK has the smallest dimensions found in its class the cabin is very spacious, the designers have developed interior appointments which offer the driver and passenger the highest degree of space and comfort.
The lightweight vario roof is available in three options, as standard the roof comes painted the same colour as the car, alternatively you can have an all glass panoramic roof. The newest option is the vario-roof with Magic Sky Control. With this feature the glass roof switches to light or dark as you wish at the press of a button. When light it is virtually transparent, offering an open-air experience even in cold weather. In its dark state the roof provides welcome shade and prevents the interior from heating up when the sun’s rays are very intense.
