Land Rover sales soar

Land Rover the British car manufacturer has reported back on its 2010 new car sales, Land Rover UK sold just over 42,000 new units, which is an increase of 28% on 2009 sales. Even more rewarding for the car manufacturer was the fact that all of its models did exceptionally well in 2010 – Land Rover Freelander up 37%, Land Rover Range Rover up 29%, Land Rover Discovery up 27%, Range Rover Sport up 23% and Land Rover Defender up 11%.

These increases are no easy achievement, the automotive market has been struggling in 2010, 2009 was fuelled with scrappage scheme incentives and many thought its withdrawal would be a lot more severe than it has proven to be.

Land Rover claim their success lies with excellent sales of the Range Rover in Kent as well as the excellent customer response they have had to the 11 Model Year cars. Land Rover has also revisited its fuel efficiency and CO2 output levels in order to make their engines much more environmentally friendly and easier on the wallet.

It was no surprise then that the most fuel efficient model, the Land Rover Freelander 2 saw the most increase in sales, the Freelander 2 registrations increased by almost 40%. The Freelander 2 TD4_e uses start stop technology to increase fuel efficiency while reducing CO2 out by up to 20%.

Land Rover UK managing director, Colin Green said: “Increasingly, customers are looking at the bigger picture and considering the overall cost of car ownership before making a purchase decision. Improved fuel economy, combined with excellent residual values, has helped grow Land Rover sales and increase the brand’s share of the UK 4×4 market.”
