Best sales in December
Vauxhall has beaten its rivals with near-wholesale domination of UK car sales in December 2010, according to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Vauxhall sold 16,548 cars in the last month which was 2,600 more than its closest rival.
The Vauxhall Astra was the UK’s best-selling car; it was a highly successful year with sales in excess of 80,000 for 2010, the Vauxhall Corsa close behind, selling 5377 and 4737 units respectively.
The more popular range took class honours in the retail sector, which it led with total sales of 1,511 units in December 2010; Vauxhall again led the competition in four key segments. Vauxhall Corsa, Vauxhall Astra and Vauxhall Insignia each topped in its class sales, the new Vauxhall Zafira was the most popular with the new Vauxhall Meriva taking a creditable third position in the compact MPV sector.
Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s Managing Director, said: “This has been a great way to end 2010, and proves that we’re back on track with a strong sales performance in both fleet and retail sectors, our newest models, like the Astra, Insignia and Meriva have raised the bar in their sectors while cars like the Corsa and Zafira are still proving immensely popular with our customers. I’m confident that 2011 will bring even more success for us.”
Vauxhall was also a winner with UK fleets in December, the Corsa, Astra, Insignia and Zafira each led their classes for company car sales, contributing to overall fleet sales of 11,796 units.
