Article Writing – 7 Expert Tips
If you want to be able write great articles like pros do, these tips are for you:
- Who’s your target audience? This is the first question that you need to ask yourself. In order to produce very effective articles, it’s important that you know the people that you’re writing for. Are they kids or adults? Are they just men, women, or both? What’s their profession, level of make wise decisions along the way. For example, you’ll know that you need to be upbeat and you need to use very simple terms if you’re writing for teenage girls.
- What’s your goal? What is it that you would like to achieve in writing your articles? Do you want to persuade people to believe in something? Do you want to influence their buying decision? Do you want to earn their trust and respect? Do you want to promote awareness? Your articles will surely come out very focused if you know ahead of time the goals that you would like to achieve.
- Choose your topics. You will surely not have a hard time choosing the best topics for your articles if you know your goals and if you know the needs of your target audience. Talk about what these people find interesting or useful to their lives. It’s best if you talk about their areas of interest, their personal goals, their problems, and their burning questions.
- Write compelling titles. It’s very important that you put your best foot forward when writing the titles for your articles. Why? It’s because this is your only shot at getting your articles opened. Summarize the gist of your content and communicate them using as few very effective words as possible. It’s best if you can pique the curiosity of your readers in the process or if you can target/push their emotional hot buttons.
- Plan ahead. Don’t write if you don’t have a clear idea about the details of your articles. I’d say take a minute and create an outline. Simply list down the information that you would like to share and just arrange them based on their importance. The most important details should come first. To keep your articles short and tight, I suggest that you limit the scope of your content. Discuss just 3-5 major points.
- Write your articles. Write your articles while keeping the preferences, needs, and demands of your target audience. Discuss each of your ideas using bullet list or short paragraphs. As much as possible, use simple terms so you can avoid confusing or misleading your readers. Then, insert relevant keywords.
- Proofread. This is something that you need to do the day after. It’s best if you look at your articles and review them using when you’re not mentally and physically exhausted. Check them for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and factual error. Revise until you’re 100% sure that your articles are perfect.
