How to Spot a Fashion Victim
The catwalks explode with a fashionistas dream but what happens when a fashionista turns into a fashion victim? Could the possibility of mixing this seasons brights with yellow trousers be a step too far, or the mesh tops that leave little to the imagination worn with only a mesh skirt. Who would possibly wear this seasons woven jumpers with a pleated skirt? Both of these are on trend for 2011 but not necessarily to be worn together. This little guide will stop anyone falling foul to the victim side of fashion.
Bright colours are all the rage for 2011, of course we need them to brighten up the gloomy economy, but there is a limit to how bright you can go, if you are wearing bright yellow trousers, then by all means clash it with an orange top, but make sure you have a neutral colour toning it down, such as a wide belt or a neutral jacket. If you want to make the bright look elegant, maybe carrying the trend to the office, then enhance a black tailored suit with a shot of lipstick pink or lime. Get your footwear in on the action, you’ll find lots of shoes arriving in eye-popping colours.
Sportswear will be taken up to another level this season too, but once again you could be heading to victim land if certain rules aren’t followed. The biggest rule is don’t go all out and cover yourself head to toe in the sporting look, if you are going to wear a hoodie, make sure it’s teamed with a pair of shorts or skirt not training bottoms. The key is to focus on the details on the clothing such as zips and fabric. The sheer mesh panels on sporty tops or bottoms can be revealing, the road to fashionistadom is to wear either a bandeau under the top or boy shorts under the trousers or skirt.
The rise of handmade look will be a key trend this year, but once again there is a wide avenue for the victim to walk down. Avoid head to toe tassels, unless you are going for the native look, keep tassles to the hem lines or as an adornment. You want to create a flowing movement, not a ten force gale. Feathers are also a key trim, but less is more.
If following any trend there is always the element of risk, not everyone can pull off gold Grecian style trousers, but most people can wear denim, always a safe option and jeans are only one way to wear it this year, there are denim pinafores to suits, denim is the trend for everyone.
