Laptop reviews – Which size is the right one for me?
Laptops come in all different sizes right now. They start with ten inch screen sizes (which are called Netbooks) and at the highest end, they go up to 17 inch. The latter species are termed as desktop replacement laptops. We get lots of notebooks in our labs and get to test them and write laptop reviews. We have given below the various screen sizes and their uses. Pick up the one that suits you the best.
- Ultraportables: These are the smallest and most lightweight computers in this category. They have compact form and hence is recommend if you need to travel along with a computer where ever a go. Be wary of these though, ultraportablity come at a cost of performance. High end hardware is sacrificed and slow components are put inside in order to save on the battery life. The end result is that these computers are good for just basic tasks like typing or Web browsing but give a big battery life. While writing laptop reviews for Netbooks, we give a lot of importance to the battery life
- Thin and light: These are step up to the above mentioned computers. Our thin and light laptop reviews focus on portability but we also expect the performance to be better than Netbooks. Here, the hard drive is increased, you might get an optical drive, and the keyboard layout too is more logical.
- Midsize or Mainstream: For laptops, we mostly get mainstream notebooks in our labs for laptop reviews. The weight is a bit more here but you get really fast computers. They have Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processors which give you blazing fast speeds for audio/video processing and you can also multitask on these notebooks easily. You will find most of the features that you need in a computer in this category. They might not be that attractive but certainly give bang for your buck
- Desktop replacement laptops: We don’t get a lot of desktop replacement notebooks in our labs and this is because they are not as popular as Netbooks or mainstream laptops. However, they have extraordinary power inside them, and are the fastest among all these laptops. All the hardware inside makes the laptops very heavy so don’t even think of carrying it around.
- Tablet PC: Sleek babies – this is what comes in our minds when we look at tablet PCs. They look really sexy and are ultraportable but just like Netbooks, they will come down on heels if you throw any processor challenging tasks.
