CNA Jobs
CNA’s are one of the most important members of a medical facility, they come in direct contact with patients on a daily basis, they are also the first person a patient will see before a doctor comes in to look over their case. They provide comfort and quality services that are vital to rehabilitation. To become a certified nursing assistant individuals are required to go through a training course that is between six to twelve weeks.
The training can be provided in a medical facility or a local community college or in some cases online training courses. Students are taught the basics, which include proper bathing techniques, laboratory training, clinical instruction as well as psychosocial skills to help students relate emotionally to patients and their loved ones. Depending on the facility they work in a CNA may also be required to change bandages and to properly dress wounds as well as inserting and removing a catheter. CNA’s are also expected to know how to read vital signs, which include blood pressure, heart rates and taking a temperature. After completion of the course students are expected to take a certification exam. They need a score of 80 and above to receive certification, which will allow them to practice what they have learned in a licensed medical facility.
Most CNA’s are employed at hospitals, nursing homes. Rehabilitation facilities, clinics and in some cases an individual’s residence. Their day-to-day task may include bathing, feeding and light housework. They supervise individuals who are capable of taking care of their basic needs alone but still need to be looked after. Because they are in the front lines and work so closely with patients they need to be empathetic to others needs. The job requires lots of physical, hands on duty, which may include lifting and moving a patient from a bed to a wheelchair or to the bathroom for a daily bath. They are usually on their feet walking to each room they are assigned with little time to sit.
Patients come to rely on the help of a CNA and depend on them for their daily needs. Their job is important because they help physicians and nurses with the day-to-day care of patients. Without CNA’s medical practitioners would be overwhelmed with to much responsibility and not enough time to work with each patient. Doctors and nurses rely on the help of a CNA to make the facility run smoothly.
