Shortly after a reporter named Mike Brewster starts his interview at the office, Patrick takes off his mic and leaves. Teresa says she was called in to investigate the St. Claire Homicide since there are political implications.
The show jumps back to the start of the case Patrick and Teresa are briefed on the case by Cho. In a shallow grave, they discover the body of Martha St. Claire who is a media relations coordinator. Cho says the victim was stabbed twice in the chest. They also find that something was ripped off her neck. Patrick figures St. Claire was killed at home since she is wearing sweatpants. Patrick figures the killer wanted the body to be discovered since she was left at a ground breaking event that the mayor attended. After seeing a nicotine patch and smelling the victim, Patrick determines St. Claire was smoking, but trying to quit. Patrick notices that the local Sheriff, Donnor, is skeptical of Patrick. Patrick sniffs Donnor and figures his wife left him.
Back at the interview, Teresa says her team closes the most cases for the CBI. After Brewster states her team has the most complaints, Teresa steps away to talk to Brenda, the police PR coordinator. Brenda says they have to put out a better image after Bosco’s death in the office.
Using video he shot. Brewster helps identify the people who attended the ground breaking event. Brewster points out Melba Shannon, the mayor; Heaton Krupp, the developer; and a group of protesters. They see Melba when she discovered St. Claire’s body. Teresa and Grace see that St. Claire often wore a necklace.
Teresa sits down with Brewster and is asked what she does during the weekend. Teresa says she has no problem having a life.
Teresa and Patrick go to the mayor’s office. Patrick digs around her desk while Teresa questions an aide named Wilson about the necklace. Wilson says St. Claire received the necklace as a gift. Melba brings the team into her office where she is asked about her new project. Melba explains they are building a Granton complex which has retail, office, and housing space that use green technology. Melba says the environmental group is lead by a madman named Jasper. She shows the team a video of Jasper, who is masked, demanding the stop of the Granton project. The team wonders who had a personal grudge against Martha. Patrick figures that Melba didn’t like St. Claire.
Outside, Patrick explains he wanted to distract Melba so he can steal a note that Wilson gave her earlier. Patrick reads that Heaton urgently wants to speak to Melba about St. Claire.
