LCD Computer Monitor – The face of your computer
No matter how good you computer is, you got to have a good LCD Computer Monitor. If you are a movie bluff or love playing games on your computer, you cannot do without a good computer display. We get plenty of computer monitors in our labs for testing and we put them through stringent processes to make sure our final verdict holds water.
Look: The first thing that you are bound to notice in a LCD Computer Monitor is the look. Computer monitors mostly have glossy exterior which gives a glow to the product. Most recent computer panels have LED backlighting and this is why they are a lot slimmer than standard CCFL based LCDs.
Ergonomics: LCD Computer Monitor may or may not have ergonomic feature but if it does have some, it adds value to the product. Almost all monitors let you tilt the monitor up to a specific degree limit. But some monitors let you pivot the screen for portrait mode. This might not mean anything to casual viewers but artists or professional photographers need this feature. A lot of panels also have swivel feature which let you move the panel around to view at different positions in the room.
Onscreen display (OSD): A computer monitor must have good OSD array and it should be easy to use. Monitors these days come with touch sensitive buttons and the labels are all hidden. They light up when touch the speficied area. But there are some panels which have physical buttons which are a bit hard to press and we would recommend you to stay away from such products.
Game/Movie Tests: We play a few rounds of games and watch some movies to see how the panel handles it. We have seen a lot of monitors that show text quite well but cannot take games well. If colors on games look drab then the LCD Computer Monitor won’t do well in movies either. If the panel delivers solid and clear image, we mention it in the review. Otherwise, we don’t mind trashing the panel.
Warranty: This too might not matter much to you but we still mention it at the end of our reviews. Typically a LCD Computer Monitor comes with one year warranty but higher end monitors, especially the ones based on IPS panels, come with three year warranty. The warranty must also cover the backlight.
