And the operation of GPS is based on triangulation. Triangulation can simply described as a method which makes use of three distinct separate points for measurement. This can be explained much more clearly with an example. For example in a car navigation system, the location of the car is measured by 3 distinct satellites which are orbiting the earth. By making use of triangulation, GPS can easily deliver the location to the receiver within close proximity of its exact location.
GPS in short are nothing but radio waves. And since they are waves, they can be jammed and this gives birth to GPS jammers. GPS jammers are high-end technical devices which require expertise to operate them. GPS jammers are generally created by government organizations, private gadget companies or military organizations. It is not possible for general civilians to make the device at home as they do not possess the technical knowhow.
Mostly the use of GPS jammers is made for the military purposes, like confusing the enemy about the exact location or place where the GPS guided bombs or missiles are scheduled to fall. But there also exist some civilian uses of GPS jammers to hide oneself or a vehicle from being tracked by GPS receiver. In most of the countries, creating and using GPS jammers are considered illegal because of the potential to misuse the device. This is because GPS jammers can be used to confuse vehicle instruments and aircraft thus paving way for accidents. Some GPS jammers claim that they are primarily created for civil uses, and there are others which are for military use.
With technical advancements now gripping the global world, cellular phones are now dominating the scenario. More and more people are using the cell phones. Cell phones integrated with GPS technology are being used in terrorist activities. This is causing a headache to the authorities as their primary concern is the security of the country. GPS jammers can be used to block such cell phones. GPS jammers are available in various forms and for distinct uses like Wi-Fi jamming, mobile jamming, car purposes etc. Today lots more of GPS jammers have been invented, which are fairly easy to install and use as well. Moreover they have gained popularity as they are cheaply priced and have been flooding the market.
