Making Delicious Apple Mango Crisp with Lemon Whipped Cream
Homemade recipes are always fun. First, you are able to discover your hidden cooking talent. Second, you can use this as a time to bond with kids. Third, you can take this opportunity to upgrade your kitchen. Some of the most enjoyable recipes to make are snacks and desserts, for after going through the hard work, you can sit down, relax, and have a bite of the sweet treats that you prepared. In making desserts, you should have the most efficient kitchen equipment to assist you in your endeavor.
Cream chargers and whipped cream dispensers are essential to your kitchen, for they not only make perfect whipped cream; they also make the process of whipping faster. First, you need to load the heavy cream to the dispenser, and then charge it up using the cream charger. The cream chargers contain nitrogen oxide, which mixes with the cream to make them foamy when dispensed. Whipped cream dispensers are commonly used in coffee shops in making perfect whipped toppings to their coffees and desserts.
You too can experiment with these kitchen gadgets. Here is a delicious recipe that you can prepare. Top it with your homemade whipped cream at the end.
Apple Mango Crisp with Dried Cranberries
Ingredients:
1 mango, peeled and diced
Apples, peeled and diced, Gala, a firm apple with medium sweetness and juiciness was used, enough to fill the baking dish
1/4 Cup dried cranberries
1/4 Cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder (optional)
1 tablespoon flour
Mix the apples and mango with the other ingredients except flour, and pack tightly in a 2-inch deep buttered pie dish. Bake at 400 degrees. After 30 minutes, stir the fruit, and check for sweetness and juice. Baking softens fruit and releases its juices. If the mango is not very ripe, it will require longer baking. The firmer the fruit, the longer it needs to be baked. Then, sprinkle the fruit with the flour, and stir to thicken the juices. When both the mango and apple start to soften, prepare the topping.
For the topping, you will need 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 cup flour. Blend the brown sugar with the butter. Add the flour to the mixture and sprinkle on top of the fruit. This will make the topping crumbly. Bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the topping is browned. Serve with lemon whipped cream.
For your Lemon Whipped Cream, prepare 1/4 cup sugar, juice of 1/2 lemon, and 1/2 pint heavy whipping cream, preferably cold. This is the manual way of preparing your whipped cream. Stir the sugar and lemon together, microwave for 20 seconds to dissolve sugar. Refrigerate until cool. Whip the cream until peaks form, and slowly whip the lemon sugar mixture into the cream. Refrigerate until needed.
What apples should you use for this recipe? Judge the apples based on their crispness, juiciness, and sweetness. Apples with no crispness bake easily while those with a good crunch may require some more baking to give up their juice. The juicier the apple, the sweeter it is. To draw out their juice, add some sugar while baking.
Apples are the great fruit for baking any time of year. Adjust the amount of sugar in the recipe to suit both the apples and your taste. When done with your recipe, enjoy your favorite apple dessert with a good cup of coffee or tea (topped with whipped cream of course!).
