Make a Statement: Accessorizing Outside of the Box

With the current world of high fashion, fashion excess, celebrity fashion statements, and trying to fit in with the Joneses and their large and every increasing wardrobe, people are beginning to dress and act alike; too much alike. Those on the fringe of the fashion world don’t want to look and act like everyone else so they choose to be different, and make a statement with what they choose to wear. Here are a few wonderful and creative examples of how people are accessorizing outside the box and making waves as they do.

Shocky Socky

Despite the fact that they are covered a majority of the time, the human foot is a great place to display your own personal out of the box fashion sense. Socks are simple pieces of clothing that are meant to be hidden inside the shoe and under the pant leg. Unfortunately, not many people know that the sock can be a showpiece. Fortunately, there are companies that go out of their way to design and make socks that delve into fashion ideas and styles that are far beyond the white Hanes, and black Izod. The fashion sock can come in off the wall color schemes, have images, icons, and words embroidered on them, or stitched into them. There are many executives in high places that must wear the tailored suit for outward appearances, but hide their true personality in their pant leg…they love to wear bright yellow socks!

Beaded and Beautiful

Another way people show their own personal out of the box fashion sense is through beaded lanyards and badge holders. Lanyards are usually used to hold ID badges securely in place around the neck, but there are those that use them to hold their iPods, eyeglasses, coin purses, keys, or medals or medallions. Ribbon lanyards are used in hospitals, colleges, and government buildings for holding security or ID badges, but those fringe fashionistas don’t want the plain old ribbon lanyard! They want the beaded lanyards! Beaded lanyards can be customized to fit your style, uniform, a certain outfit or set of outfits, or made to show off your school colors and pride. Not only can you accessorize outside the box with just lanyards, but you can pair lanyards and badge holders for a matched look.

Bombastic Belts

Though they aren’t as visible as lanyards and badge holders, the belt is a great place to make a statement. Whether you wear your belts in leather, elastic, rope, or a polyester blend, you are usually required to have a belt buckle—but your belt buckle doesn’t have to be the one the belt came with! Much like Agent Booth of Bones (played by David Boreanaz), you can have belt buckles with images of skulls, flames, skulls in flames, or flames made of bones—the possibilities are nearly endless.

Living surrounded by the who’s who of fashion, you can still wear what you want and do it with style. Accessorizing outside the box is a great way to start a new fashion sensation…or you can keep it your own little fashion secret.
