Fundraising Ideas : People Want to Give
Fundraising has become the lifeblood of many businesses, organizations, and non-profit foundations. Without annual or semi-annual fundraisers, many wouldn’t have the money they need to function at full capacity. Organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Big Brother’s Big Sisters, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and the like are all experts at running a successful fundraising campaign. But what can people do; the people who aren’t a part of a big non-profit but still see to the needs, and do the same good works that these organizations do?
Planning and running a small time fundraiser can be challenging, but if you are willing to work hard, think outside the box, and do some legwork, you can raise the funds you need to aid these organizations and help them do what they do best—help others.
Key Chains
Key chains are practically required for anyone who has any type of key. The house key, mail key, car key, lock key, boat key, etc. all need some place to roost that won’t get easily lost or forgotten. Using key chains as the sellable item in a fundraiser is a great way to get some much needed funds. Buying plain key chains from wholesalers isn’t ideal; you’ll want to personalize the key chains to symbolize your cause or use the icon or mascot of the organization directly (this would require authorization).
Beaded Lanyards
Another useful accessory that people snatch up at fundraisers is a lanyard. Lanyards are worn around the neck and can be clipped to everyday items and secured in place. These items include: iPods, MP3 players, eyeglasses, sunglasses, ID badges, name tags, medals, or even key chains! One of the most popular types of lanyard is beaded lanyards; which differ from the usual ribbon lanyard because beads can be customized in different colors, patterns, and bead types. If you are raising funds for breast cancer research, you could offer special beaded lanyards that have been designed with the recognizable colors and emblems for research. Beaded lanyards aren’t a very common fundraising item (no one really even knows what a lanyard is, even though they may NEED one..or two) but you’ll find that there are people in many walks of life who would love to own one.
Wristbands
The lanyard for the wrist, the wristband, is another hot seller that brings in the people and the funds for worthy causes. Wristbands are very popular with Livestrong.com (yellow), Susan G. Komen (pink), and WWJD (black). Wristbands can come in many different colors, designs, and even come with attached charms. These colors, designs, and charms can be personalized or customized for your particular fundraiser or organization. Wristbands are easy to wear, can match uniforms and outfits, and can be removed when needed.
Odds and Ends
Other really popular fundraiser items are: t-shirts, hats, jackets, sweaters, mugs, magnets, pens (ballpoint and shirt), mouse pads, bumper stickers, and bandanas. Any of these items, when customized and sold through your fundraiser, can easily raise much needed monies.
You can raise money for worthy causes without being an organization. If you see a need you can help meet that need by raising money. Good luck.
