Expressing Your Style As A Nurse
Many hospitals and doctors offices have strict dress codes and rules that nurses must follow as they care for the patients they encounter. As a result, it can be difficult for women in nursing to express their style when so much is already decided for them. There are many things that nurses can do to have a little fun with style, even if the nursing dress codes and regulations are so strict.
Endless possibilities exist for hair. Of course, there is the typical idea of pulling it back or leaving it down for those nurses who have long hair. Perhaps even straightening, curling or scrunching for a little daily variety. Pulling it back does not have to be as simple as the plain pony tail. Experiment with braiding, French braiding, or even Dutch braiding. To go in a different direction, bobby pins can wildly expand your hair possibilities. You can section your hair out and twist it into many different shapes. You can also start with a simple ponytail and use bobby pins to section out the hair and twist it from there to create a variety of styles that are your own.
However, hair creativity is not only for nurses who have long hair. There are many things that can be done for short and long hair with the use of headbands, ribbons and pins. Headbands come in many varieties and can be fit to your particular style. Many stores sell an assortment of colors, sizes and textures. Headbands can be used with any type of hair and can also be used when hair is up or down. Each headband creates a unique style for your day. Ribbons can also be an inexpensive alternative to headbands. Ribbon is sold at many crafting stores as well as at some department stores. It also comes in a variety of colors, widths, and textures. You can tie it around your head in the same place that a headband would go and it can be secured with bobby pins. This can create a new look daily with a variety of ribbons, for a much smaller investment. Crafting stores also sell hair barrettes and crafting pins. They have a large disc at the end of the pin to which you can attach an array of items. Consider attaching silk flowers, beads, ribbon, or jewels. All of these things come in many colors, shapes and sizes. These pins can be placed in the hair whether it is long or short to create a unique look.
Another area in which you may consider expressing your style is in the way you display your id badge. A designed badge holder clipped onto your scrubs adds pizzazz to your outfit. Combine it with designed badge reel so you can use your id easily without having to take it off of your scrubs. For even easier freedom to move about, hook your badge holder and badge reel on a lanyard. A beaded lanyard allows you to show even more personality.
Working as a nurse requires making certain sacrifices. With a little creativity, style doesn’t have to be one of them!
