Cake recipe made easy
It was described in the book as an easy cake recipe but it’s all gone wrong! The butter ended up being to hard, the batter was gooey and the cake itself ended up burned to a cinder with sunken middle.
Don’t be downhearted – even accomplished bakers have cake malfunctions sometimes; and whilst we are on the subject, easy cake making for the home aren’t always about the aesthetics at all. A cake doesn’t have to look wonderful to taste good. If you do make a mistake in creating your cake, there’s no need to waste it either – take the most edible parts and put them in a freezer (you can use later in the bottom of a trifle or tiramisu) then let your dog have the rest.
On this page we give you tips so you can achieve easy cake recipe baking skills and make you (if not your dog) happier more often when creating delicious homemade cakes.
Preparing the baking tin. Rub the inside of the tin generously with butter, margarine or lard afterwards you can use the wrappers for greasing, if that’s what you bought them in). Easy Cake Recipes will sometimes get you to use grease proof paper in the inside of the tin or you could just use aluminium foil, as its a bit easier to use, especially for the corners. It can be a bit fiddly lining the tin, especially if its round but you are able to buy precut shapes to make this easier. Try to use double thickness lining when making fruit cakes also remember to cover the top with paper this will help to stop the cake burning on its surface.
Easy Cake Recipe Measuring. Always follow the exact measurements on the recipe. If you cake is going to be bigger or smaller, then of course you can alter it accordingly but be sure that the changes are all equal. Bare in mind that your cooking times will alter when using different volumes of batter.
Keep all cake recipe ingredients at room temperature, the butter especially (you need immense elbow grease if you try beating it straight from the fridge).
When it comes to adding flour into the batter, sift it, holding the sieve about 10cm/4in above the mixing bowl; this helps avoid lumps and introduces more air into the mixture.
Dropping consistency. Meaning, As you scoop the batter and tip the spoon as if to pour out, the mixture drops off slowly. Now don’t worry if the batter doesn’t move. Just thin it by adding a few drops of milk. Too runny? All you need to do is sift with flour.
Testing for ‘done ness’. Whatever you do don’t rely to heavily on the times your given. Keeping checking from 10 – 15 minutes before the end by probing the centre of the cake with a knife, proceeding well inside the mixture. If it comes out clean, it’s done, If the knife comes out looking moist (soggy) then give it 5 more minutes.
Decorating the cake. Let your cake cool completely before adding icing (frosting). Make the easy cake recipe a whole lot easier by by omitting the frosting/icing and you may simply dust the cake with icing (powdered) sugar instead.
