Cure Amenorrhea or Absence of Menstruation Naturally
Amenorrhea is a condition of absence of the menses in a woman. It implies that a woman does not get her period during her reproductive stage. It is natural to have menses. So when this does not occur, it is not natural. Amenorrhea is not a disease but a symptom to other issues.
When the uterus sheds it lining, menstruation occurs. It is important for reproduction. The body gets ready for pregnancy and having menses is a part of the process. During this the blood flows from the uterus through the vagina. Women menstruate normally till the age of 50. After that they experience menopause. Menopause is when the menses stop in a woman. Some experience irregular or late periods. When one does not have periods for over 3 months, it is known as amenorrhea.
This is of two types namely Primary and Secondary Amenorrhea. It is called a primary condition when the menses cycle never starts in a girl till about the age of 16. In secondary, menses start, but the cycle stops for some reason. Hormones influence menses. Therefore, if there is an imbalance, it disrupts the menstruation cycle.
There are many reasons for amenorrhea to occur.
1. Pregnancy: The primary reason is pregnancy. When the egg is fertilized, it is implanted in the uterus lining, therefore the uterus does not shed its lining and periods do not occur.
2. Stress: Stress levels can affect the hypothalamus which in turn controls the hormones production. When the hormones balance is disturbed, amenorrhea can occur.
3. Breast Feeding: During breast feeding, it may happen, that ovulation takes place, but periods do not.
4. Contraceptive Pills: Intake of contraceptive pills can cause this condition. It may take months for the periods to start after giving up the contraceptive pills. These pills cause suppression of menses.
5. Weight loss: Sudden and drastic weight loss disrupts the hormonal balance.
6. Obesity: Like weight loss, obesity too causes hormonal imbalance.
7. Medications: Certain medications like anti depressants or steroids can cause amenorrhea.
8. Thyroid: Thyroid issues like underactive thyroid condition, known as hypothyroidism can also result in irregularities.
9. Scarring: Scaring of the uterine lining could be another reason.
10. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: This is a common cause. Also known as PCOS. In this condition, many small cysts may be present in the ovary.
The treatment of amenorrhea depends on the reason for it. If the woman does not want to conceive further, the treatment is unnecessary. If it is medication induced, one should stop taking those medications. The doctors diagnose such a condition by doing a blood test to test the hormone levels. A pelvic examination and ultrasound may be conducted.
Some may experience excessive hair growth on face, headache, milky nipple discharge and problems in vision as symptoms.
Some herbs like lemon balm and blue cohosh are beneficial in this condition. Lemon balm is said to have calming properties and it promotes periods. Blue cohosh stimulates the uterine and is used in treatments of menstrual disorders. Intake of tomato juice everyday is very beneficial too.
One should avoid drinks, tea, coffee and fizz drinks. Eat healthy food and exercise enough. Do not go on sudden drastic diets for weight loss.
