An Uncommon Treatment for the Common Cold Part 1

The common cold has been around and has been bothering us humans for as long as we existed. The sneezing, the nasal congestion, the sore and itchy throat and not to mention the phlegm just makes this common affliction unbearable. We’ve all experienced it perhaps countless times in our lives. It is that common and we are probably not going to escape it anytime soon.

But that does not mean that we must just accept it as it comes.

Countless ways have been presented for us to get relief from this uncomfortable condition. Many people often turn to over-the-counter drugs to get some measure of relief from its symptoms. However, there may be a newly discovered treatment for the common cold, and it is drug free at that!

That is acupressure. Acupressure is a procedure of trying to strike a balance in the bodily system’s energy flow. It works to relieve the common cold by re-energizing the body’s immune system and reducing the ill effects of stress that is affecting it.

One attempt to systematize acupressure as a medical treatment is through the efforts of engineer Gary Craig. Craig worked on what he called the Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT to develop the practice of psychotherapy where he applied methods used in acupressure therapy with psychological treatments.

The effects of this technique are astounding. Those who were treated with this method granted a significant lowering in their overall stress conditions along with a more heightened sense of well being. Consequently, after the EFT treatment, these same patients have been reported to have significantly less colds and other common allergies.

EFT achieves a balance in the body’s energy flow or meridian stream through a combination of a simple tapping of one’s fingers on crucial acupressure points and focusing on the person’s emotional concerns. It can be used as a general therapeutic device in that it helps relieve stress and promote a person’s overall well-being but at the same time, it can help treat a cold.
