The country of France is steeped in so much history and culture and has to be unearthed and experienced as it would be a pity to spend all of your trip in one city or town. It is definitely worth researching what attractions are in the neighbouring places to where you plan to stay, as there may well be some unknown treasures there that will make your holiday that little bit more fascinating.

Paris is the most obvious destination that tourists visiting this beautiful country want to discover. There is so much to do here, from fine dining, to extravagant shows and historical monuments, there is sure to be something for everybody, no matter what the age.

But whilst there is more than enough to take pleasure in in the French capital, there is also so much going on outside of it. Small adjacent towns are picturesque and a excellent getaway from all the hustle and bustle of the main tourist attractions.

Versailles is located only 20 km west of Paris, making this an ideal place to visit as the majority of the day will not be spent on transport travelling around to destinations. Paris Versailles is a small town which houses the splendid Palace of Versailles and its spectacular gardens. The Palace is full of significance and history as this was the Royal residence for over a century before the French Revolution saw the end to the King and Queen of France.

The impressive palace houses over 700 rooms, including the Hall of Mirrors which showcases 17 great mirrors facing 17 windows into the extravagant gardens beneath. This is perhaps the most notable room of the palace, in which King Louis XIV used to show off to guests.

The serene gardens should be browsed around at your leisure also. Marvel at the marble and bronze statues, fountains and geometrically aligned terraces.

A day visit to Paris Versailles is the perfect accompaniment to make the most of any French holiday.
