Fitting An Over Bath Shower
An alternative to fitting a shower enclosure if space is tight is to fit a bath screen to an exisiting bath. Shower screens then to be more hygenic and efficient than a dated shower curtain. Different bath screens are designed for particular baths or water pressures. When power-shower is installed over a bath it is essential that a power-shower rated bath screen is specified as if not leaks will appear from the bath screen everytime the shower is used. For an instant shower or a normal mixer shower a single panel bath screen will be adequate. However it is not unusual for some spray to escaoe into the bathroom.
The baths must have a flat rim on the edge of the bath and the screen should be installed with the top edge horizontal. Any water which collects around the taps will drain into the bath. It is essential that the bath screen is fitted above the inside edge of the bath so it acts as a deflector and guides any spray from the shower back into the bath. To make the bath screen as effective as possible run a bead if silicone to the wall facing side of the fixing profile before it is screwed into place. Once the shower screen is fixed to the wall you mst apply a suitable silicone sealant to the inner and outer edge of the wall profile.
It is important to follow the manufacturers instructions step by step as the screen may be prone to leak if not.
