Time saving tips that a Virtual Assistant needs to know

As a business person running a business from home, there is a lot that needs to be done. First and foremost self discipline is of utmost importance. There may be envy all around you with people thinking you have the best and the most relaxed job in the world. You work from home! You have none to answer to, no need to commute and all the regular grinds that is encumbent working for someone else.

But there are downsides to working from home as a Virtual Assistant. If one is a homemaker, you will know how easy it is to get distracted by personal tasks, procrastinate or keep working all the time that would ultimately eat into a personal space.

Here are some time saving tips that a Virtual Assistant can easily put into place to manage things more effectively.

1.      Segregate your work area from the rest of the house. It’s pertinent to have a separate area that would show and mean that you are there for business. This means you have somewhere to work with fewer distractions and will be able to focus totally on the job. Once you are done, lock the door of your office space or shut down your computer to avoid the temptation of checking your mails or answering that one last mail you ‘feel’ is important.

2.      Keep all your things in order. Its important that your space is just your space alone and that you get the things you need in your space when working. Remember a VA is expected to be organized and efficient to carry off the tasks given by her clients. Therefore just take time to organize things if they are scattered around or get your equipment working and in a proper condition so that you aren’t spending too much time looking for things or setting your equipment up.

3.      Just be strict about scheduling your time. Remember your time is money and you just need to let go of things that eat into your office time or working time. There will always be time for things. You just need to schedule your office time in such a way that other domestic chores don’t eat into it.

4.      Stay away from your office area. Once the scheduled working time is over, STEP AWAY from the office area. There is no way you can justify your personal time if you don’t shut down your office mind, your office area and concentrate solely on your personal time.

5.      Keep a list of things you feel you waste your time on. This will help you in organizing your time. There are a whole lot of things we do that eat into our precious time leaving us wondering if only we had more time on our hands. Once you keep track of those areas that eat into your time, you will be left with a lot of time on your hands.
