DIY Shower Clog
If you are dealing with a constantly clogged shower drain you know how annoying this can be. You get a little bit of drainage back and then the next thing you know the problems just comes right back. This time it’s worse than ever. Personally, there are couple culprits in our house. Certainly not me! Unfortunately we have to wash two beautiful dogs in our shower as it’s the only place big enough. One method of clearing your shower drain might seem a little out of place. You toilet plunger can work just as well in your shower. That’s right, your plunger. Actually attempting this one first is a good idea. It’s pretty easy. The powerful air flow created by the plunger can remove a lot of newer drain flow problems.
The next method is of course store bought drain cleaner. It should be said this technique gets bad reviews though. Here is why that is. People in the plumbing industry started the warning. A warning heard now around the world. You might say there is a reason for their warnings but their reasoning is pretty logical. I tend to believe things more when they are based on logic. The shower drain in most residential homes is a plastic product. This holds true for most drains. The chemicals used to eat away at your nagging drain clog also will eat away at the plastic pipe over time. These cleaners should not be part of continual cure but if you have an immediate need it can work. Just remember replacing drain pipes can be expensive. Finally we get to the last method. Go to your closet and grab yourself the all purpose wire hanger. Trumpet sound please! This multi-pupose tool has millions of unique uses. Alright, maybe not millions. All you need to do is disasemmble the hanger and form a small hook at one end. Now what you want to do is guide the hooked in down toward the blockage. This can be tricky but just stick with it. Once down all you need to do is pull back and your problem is likely solved. To make sure the clog was completely removed fish the hook down a few more times. The more the merrier.
