Proud of my car

While visiting my friend in Sunderland, I found out that the Nissan Sunderland Plant was celebrating a record year of production. Nissan manufactured a total of 423,262 units in Sunderland last year, out of that 81% were exported.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders published figures showing that the Nissan Sunderland Plant accounted for more than one in three of all passenger cars produced in the UK in 2010, they have also been UK’s largest car producer in every year since 1998.

Kevin Fitzpatrick, Nissan’s Vice President for Manufacturing in the UK, said: “2010 was a landmark year for the plant and represents a superb achievement by our workforce. This performance also reflects the popularity of the models we are producing in Sunderland, especially the Nissan Qashqai and the new Nissan Juke, which have both been designed, engineered and built in the UK. By focusing on cost competitiveness, quality and being responsive to fluctuating customer demand, we have experienced significant growth in our operation where others have declined. This winning formula will be the key to securing future new products and continued growth.”

When I went back home, I felt proud to be driving my Nissan in Northern Ireland. I wasn’t a fan of the Nissan brand, so when my dad bought it for me as my first car I wasn’t excited at all. It took me a few months to like my car and now after knowing its success of last year, I like it even more.

I’ve already decided on my next car, it will be the 100% electric Nissan LEAF which was named the new European Car of the Year.
