Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
Party-pooping wedding-crasher, Lord Beckett (Tom Hollander) warrants the police arrest of William Turner as well as Elizabeth Swann (Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley) for having assisted with Jack Sparrow’s (Johnny Depp) prision break during his attempted hanging.
Leaving them little choice, Becket commissions the paramours to locate Jack Sparrow, acquire his compass and turn it in, as Beckett realizes its preternatural traits alluring; the compass constantly points to anything the owner most wishes for.
Meanwhile, right after announcing to the crew of The Black Pearl that their next journey is to seek out an odd key, Sparrow is challenged by Bootsrap Bill Turner–William’s father–who has sought out Sparrow to deliver a warning from the legendary Davy Jones (Bill Nighy): Your payment is due.
We then find out that Bootstrap is enslaved by Jones, as a member of the crew of The Flying Dutchman (Jones’ ship).
It’s then discovered that Jack owes his rank of owner and captain of The Black Pearl to Davy Jones, which he had made previous deal with. Bootstrap warns Jack that the Kraken (a huge and notorious sea beast at Jones’ command) is going to be sent after him. This petrifies Jack enough to send him cowering towards very first bit of land that he can find, which happens to be an tropical isle filled with hungry cannibals who want to dine on him.
Fortunately, Bill finds The Black Pearl and comes to Sparrow’s rescue just in time, as films are often wont to depict. Tia Dalma, a voodoo priestess in Jack’s acquaintance unearths that the key Jack described previously in the film, opens a chest which contents are the still-beating-heart of Davy Jones. Unfortunately for Jack, Jones him self protects the key.
When captured by Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman, Jack is advised in order to settle his arrears he must accumulate one hundred souls within 3 days. Will discovers the location of Jones’ key and
steals it. Later, ole’ Commodore Norrington (James Davenport) is picked up. A battle rapidly breaks out involving Jack, Will and Norrington about exactly what they should do with the heart of Davy Jones.
Norrington steals it. Jack, thinking he still owns it, goes merrily on his way, until the Dutchman attacks The Black Pearl. Amazingly, The Pearl escapes, but it is not smooth sailing for long, as Jones’ sends The Kraken down on them.
Everybody abandons ship, except for Jack, who is crossed by Elizabeth, who ties him to the mast and leaves him to die (as she understands the Kraken is only after him). Tia Dalma subsequently offers the advice that the crew of The Black Pearl seek out rescuing Jack. An abrupt ending that nearly feels as if the movie just isn’t over leaves you wanting far more.
