You Can’t Always Wear Jeans! Appropriate Attire for Special Events
Just because people are dressing down more and more these days, it does not mean that you can always wear jeans. There is appropriate attire for every special event. When you see the words “special event” you can cross out your jeans as a possible garment to wear. No matter how stunning you think jeans are (for men and women) they are just not appropriate for special events. Some special events that might be marked on your calendar include job interviews, weddings, bar mitzvahs and even going to church. Don’t make the mistake of wearing to jeans to a special event.
Why Are Jeans Not Invited?
Jeans are never invited to special events because the people that are inviting you want you to look your best. This does not mean that you don’t look outstanding in your jeans, but this is a special event and jeans are not that special. You wear them on an everyday basis and they are comfortable. At special events your attire should reflect the occasion and this means that your favourite pair of jeans is not invited.
So What Can You Wear?
You might be so accustomed to just throwing on a pair of jeans that when an invitation comes along, you might have no idea what to wear to a special event. There are ways to play it safe and to test the boundaries a bit. Either way is fine, as long as a pair of jeans is not in the mix. Some appropriate attire for special events include dresses, suit pants, button down shirts, skirts and other garments in the same category.
Colour Coding
The colours that you wear to a special event can also be very important. If you are going to a wedding or another event in which the honoured person will be dressed up, then you should avoid wearing that colour. This is just common fashion courtesy to keep all of the attention on the person that it should be on. For special events, no matter what they are, black is acceptable to wear. It is a slimming colour and it can be dressed up easily with bright accessories or shoes.
How Short is Too Short?
For formal occasions, mini skirts and dresses are never appropriate. The length of your garment should be no higher than the knee. Showing too much skin can often be seen as a lack of respect. Even if you love showing off your figure, you can take one night off. You might also try to do the same for your cleavage. A small amount can be acceptable but go for higher necked dresses and shirts (avoid deep V Necks) and leave the push up bra at home.
