VmWare Thinapp

VMware ThinApp is an application virtualization solution. ThinApp is able to execute applications without them being installed in the traditional sense by virtualizing resources such as environment variables, files and Windows Registry keys. The virtual environment presented to the client is a merged view of the underlying physical and virtual resources, thereby allowing the virtualization layer to fool the application into thinking that it is running as if it were fully installed. ThinApp does not have any pre-installed components and does not require the installation of device drivers allowing applications to run from USB keys or network shares without ever requiring Administrator rights. ThinApp converts standard application installers such as .msi files into self-contained EXE files which includes everything required to run. Also it is able to scan a system before and after an applications installation and create a portable executable based upon changes made to the systems files and registry. Unlike self-extracting ZIP files, ThinApp does not extract files to disk or require system registry changes in order to run applications.

Storage and Transportation of data, application and software files: The most basic use of a flash drive is to store your personal data and help in transfer and/or modification at a later stage. The data may include documents, photographs as well as videos. Concurrently, in the official arena, you can use it to store security heightened encrypted data along with the encryption application such as True Crypt, that can then be freely transported anywhere.

Application and system administration purposes: Generally in an office situation, they come very handy in quick storage and retrieval of network configuration info for maintenance and recovery processes. Even certain Windows and Linux OS applications like VMware ThinAPP and Creedo can be run directly from your 1 GB USB flash drive without PC installation.

Audio Players and Music storage: Flash drives, today can store songs in multiple formats like mp3, aac3, wma etc and some drives can also play them. These drives come preinstalled with a music player that can not only just play music through a head phone, but it can also be connected to the car stereo device via the USB interface for Hi-Fi music.

System Backup and Boot device: With the advent of Windows Vista and the latest Windows 7, you can store both boot information as well as backup data in your finger drive.

Due to the ubiquity of the device, it has a huge following and is manufactured by many companies. Corsair, SanDisk, Transcend are some of the leading producers, while you may also find cheaper options. A fake 1 GB USB flash drive will always give you problems like bad sector and deleted data which you would not find in the authentic ones.
