Amsterdam: The town of Treasures

We recently booked our flights to Amsterdam. Yes, Amsterdam! We were on our way to my brother’s marriage ceremony and were so thrilled and looking forward to it. At first, we struggled to locate appropriate plane tickets, but we later learned that it was due to the fact that we did not know where to search! There are so many tour deals and offers out there; we didn’t know which to select. We thought we would narrow down our options by looking at what we would like and what we preferred. We looked at the date and time we planned to fly, the amount we planned to spend and what type of flight comfort we’d prefer. Then we sought out plane tickets that incorporated all those particulars and chose the one most suited to our requirements.

Amsterdam is an amazing place. Not only did we enjoy a lovely wedding ceremony, we also experienced the very best of it by visiting its many places of interest. It has a wide range of recreational scenery that ranged from fascinating old buildings to oddities like the Hash Marihuana Museum. Museums are the main places of interest in Amsterdam. Everybody knows the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum, but you’ll find a lot more to check out. Amsterdam has over 50 museums that draws an incredible number of travelers every year. We chose to look for the different tourist attractions in Amsterdam after scheduling our flights to Amsterdam: we wanted to be well prepared when we arrived. We wanted to know where to go, which sites to see and what not. Our travel agent helped us to arrange a tour guide that could take us to the tourist attractions. She met us at the airport terminal.

Our first stop was the renowned Oude Kerk. This old church with little houses clinging to its sides continues to be a calm heaven in the middle of the Red Light District. Its structures, especially the Gothic-renaissance style octagonal bell tower was an amazing site to see. It is not only gorgeous, but it also has a story to tell, as the majority of the tourist sites around the globe. The church was the perfect object to test my new Diana F+ Lomography camera on. The photos turned out amazing.

Dam Square was most likely my most favourite site of the whole of Amsterdam, not due to its elegance, but due to its history. The dam is the very centre of Amsterdam and is referred to as heart of it. Although there are more attractive scenery in the city, the Dam is the most interesting due to its background. The Dam has seen several historical dramas unfold throughout the years and was, for instance, the reception area for Napoleon and his troops during the 1808 take-over of the city. The Koninklijk Paleis, or Royal Palace which dominates the square, was originally used as the town hall and its traditional fa?ade and fine statues were designed to glorify the city of Amsterdam and its government. In contrast to its violent historical past, the square is now a relaxing place and is home to hundred of pigeons, whom I managed to get wonderful pictures of with my new camera.

Whilst in Amsterdam, we also visited Bergijnhof, the Canals, Magare Brug, the Jordaan, Rembrandtplein, Leidseplein and the Amsterdam Windmills. The easiest part of the whole trip was, without a doubt, booking our flights to Amsterdam. But the rest was remarkable: something we’ll value always.
