Owning A Home Is A Huge Responsibility
I never realized that owning a house is such a big obligation. Of course I was totally conscious of the month to month bond repayment, the water electricity bills, the garden services etc, but I never in my wildest dreams thought that maintaining the interior of the home would also be a 24 hour 7 days a week responsibility!
This weekend “operation new kitchen” will commence! I’m among those typical women who believe that you can never have enough cupboards or shelves and our current cooking area is lacking both! I must also add that the kitchen area was put in about a century ago and other than being unsightly it still contains steel cupboards which have now started to rust!
In case you are ever looking at renovating your kitchen area, you could possibly can learn from my experience (and blunders):
Having a basic idea of the size of the kitchen is not sufficient! You must have exact sizes before you start acquiring quotes for cupboards, shelves, new ovens and floor tiles! The last thing you want is being saddled with kitchen cabinets that don’t fit into the kitchen, or on the other hand, wide open gaps between your units! There are so many ways to improvise and upgrade a striking kitchen, but without the right measurements that would not be possible!
Consider where your current kitchen sink and taps are. If at all possible you would want the new kitchen’s kitchen sink to be in the same place as your aged sink, as this would mean that you won’t need to move the taps, pipes etc. Once more there are plenty of diverse designs and sizes of sinks available that you are almost bound to find a setup what would work flawlessly with your existing design.
The same thing goes for your power outlets. Do not forget that your oven and stove will need to be connected again. If you put in your new hob and oven, bear in mind where your power outlets are to minimize unnecessary cabling and electricity issues.
If you have an existing stove and/or hob, measure this correctly! Most hobs and stoves are only available in standard measurements, but in the event that you own a customized hob or stove you will not be able to fit this into standard kitchen cupboard layouts. Be sure that you have the width, height and depth at hand before trying to find quotes on new units.
Many kitchens have tiled floors. This is a thing that you must take into account while looking around at new kitchen cupboards. Ideally the new cupboards should have the same depth as the current cupboards (or deeper) to prevent gaps in the tiles. If you are planning on getting new floor tiles in any case, then this is of course not something you have to worry about.
Keep in mind that most cupboards and shelves are supplied as an empty shell. It is very important also get quotes on the cupboard doors and tops if this is not part of the “do it yourself package”.
Happy remodeling! I hope your new kitchen gives you hours of cooking and entertainment pleasure!
