Historical Flags of Europe – LUX

Some flags of Europe have some interesting similarities with regards to each other. For example, the tricolor flag of Luxembourg differs that of the Netherlands in proportions and in its lighter shade of the color blue. Both flags as officially displayed from and attached to flag poles for sale in modern days, shows the colors blue, white and red on three horizontal stripes. Such flags are also referred to as tricolor flags. Other countries, including Germany, France and Italy are represented by such flags.

For as small as the country may seem, Luxembourg functions completely “independent” from other countries. In fact, its culture ties back to both the Roman and Germanic time periods of Europe. Considered a trilingual country, inhabitants of this wonderful nation speak German, French and their own tongue, Luxembourgish.

The Luxembourg flag is similar to other flags of Europe, especially to the flag of the Netherlands. The only difference is that the Luxembourg variation is slightly shorter and the blue colored band is a lighter shade, which is somewhat of an obvious fact. If observed in good day-light however, on flag poles and other means, the flags are challenging to distinguish from each other.

The colors that are used on the national flag of Luxembourg were used officially around the 1830-s, during the so called “Belgian Revolution.” It is said that these colors were used based on their usage on various coat of arms in the region. It was not until 1972 that an official law was put into effect regulating the flag of Luxembourg. Many countries have laws that define the specifics of their respective national flag.

Flags and banners of all kinds, including school banners, are used for means of identification throughout the world. Flags are commonly flown from aluminum and steel flagpoles, including poles aboard vessels of all types. Common materials used for the manufacturing of banners and flags are nylon and polyester.
