Trailblazers, The Libertarian Party
Believe it or not, the late Ronald Reagan was one of many who supported the ways of classic libertarianism. As a US President, Reagan’s positive outlook on economic drive and his optimistic trust in the power and ability of people as individuals is often reflected in today’s libertarian world. Libertarian beliefs have proved to be an efficient and logical way to operate for both, major corporations and average American workers who have the spirit to live their life as an independent. Everyday more people are taking the initiative and starting up their own businesses all by themselves; from solving problems and making business decisions to managing and operating the whole suite.
These people are, at the least, contributing members of America’s society among other things like self-sustained entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, when used in politic and economic circles, the term “libertarian” is often misunderstood as a description for people that support major corporations over local businesses and policies strictly designated by a prying government. This misconception needs to be clarified to it’s true nature which is simply a philosophical structure for a government optimized for peace and prosperity.
Because of the controversial debate over what the libertarian party supports and entails, many Presidents and major politician figures have avoided representing it due to not truly understanding libertarian drive or simple fear of being taken under with the controversy. In turn, the popularity and advantage of the conservative mantle has caused federal and state governments to become more powerful. Now the American people are wondering why citizens are required to pay higher taxes and suffer larger deficits. An example in recent world news is the current struggle our new President, Obama, has trying to maintain an interest in conservative programs like Medicare which is more like a debt-spawning black hole.
But if there is one thing we can always depend on it is that this country is still the United States of America, which means we’re all entitled to the viable option of being our own boss. In fact, the entrepreneur alternative is one of the most under rated and rapidly growing trends in the last five to ten years. We’re finally in a day and age where libertarian ways have gained spiking popularity in the US and people are utilizing their economic choices. With that being said, we as people should start educating ourselves on how to think like Libertarians – a party that believes all potential power traces back to it’s root: the individual. Collective ventures function better when the support is strongly reinforced with well-educated and trained qualifiers.
The cause of libertarian disinterest may be due to the fact that true Libertarians believe that it is not up to the government to provide shelter, funding and relief to every man, woman and children in the US. The survival-of-the-fittest mindset may be intimidating but the potential of generating your own economic gain should outweigh any worries that you may not receive free handouts at the soup kitchen during a financial downturn.
