Eating Out in Canary Wharf
London’s Canary Wharf district is the city’s second largest business centre and is home to many of its tallest buildings and many of the world’s largest banks and multi-national corporations. The area is also home to many great opportunities for shopping, dining and entertainment. There are a number of excellent restaurants to be found in Canary Wharf, serving several different international cuisines as well as traditional British fare. Here is a short list of a few of the best:
Camino – One of Canary Wharf’s newer eating establishments, Playing spot is building a good reputation for its service and food. The restaurant serves authentic Spanish dishes and tapas. The wine list is short, but well-selected, and there are Spanish lagers and sangria as well as specialty Latin cocktails. A spacious terrace adds to the charm of this up-and-coming Canary Wharf contender.
Cinnamon — Located in the Hilton Canary Wharf, Cinnamon offers a contemporary-styled dining room as well as excellent food and service. The menu features some very tasty seafood dishes and the little touches, such the breadbasket (with focaccia and fresh-baked breadsticks) and other appetizers, combine to make this one of the finest restaurants to be found in any of the Canary Wharf hotels. The Hilton is also one of the best hotels in Canary Wharf.
Dockmaster’s House – Located at the West India Dock, this restaurant features a fabulously designed three-storey building and very well-prepared Indian dishes, including delicious Tandoori Grilled Pheasant, Lamb Rump Khada Masala, Prawns Moilee and other Indian specialties. The prices are reasonable and the beautiful setting makes for an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommended.
Battery – With floor to ceiling windows and a great view of Canary Wharf, Battery is the perfect setting for a business luncheon or a romantic dinner. The restaurant serves contemporary European cuisine under the direction of Chef Minesh Patel. Try the Wild Halibut or come for the Sunday Roast Beef Dinner – you won’t be disappointed.
