The Day You Comprehend You’re Not The Single Church In Charlotte!

After approximately 4 years into getting a church plant going in the central Charlotte region, we woke up, looked around us and gathered that we truly aren’t the only ones doing what we’re doing in the city. I know it sounds strange, but it is so easy to get so focused on your own issues as a small organization, an amateur spiritual body, trying to get things moving, or even just enduring your first few years financially, that you skip to look up from time to time and identify what’s going on nearby.

And then one day, for no specific reason, you wake up and recognize that you are not alone, and that there any number of people doing exactly the same things as you, and they are not the competition, but rather a wellspring of companionship, support and common cause. And then you question yourself why it took so long to get in touch with them, even just to say hello, this is who we are, and why we’re here?

Recently we have become much more interested at City Church in contacting similar organizations in Charlotte with similar values and hopes, and in starting to create potentially productive relationships with them.

What made this change of heart, and why didn’t we do it beforehand? Probably, it is just something that takes place once you start to grow in fortitude in your own existence, and you’re no longer so worried concerning sheer survival month to month. It really isn’t that much separate from growing up as an individual. Once you get over the worst of your growing pains, and start to comprehend who you are, what you’re about, and mature in confidence in that identity, it becomes a lot easier to open yourself up and make new friends with folks who might have same principles and dreams. And then who knows what might come out of those friendships.often the most unexpected and fruitful turns for a neophyte affiliation like our own!

How many of the things we hope to do might be better accomplished in cooperation with others? The answer is significantly a lot. We are very interested as an organization in mobilizing our people to get engaged in Social Action projects, all over the city. But fairly, as a small organization we are fairly confined in what we can do. How much better it would be to link up with another similar organization close by, and in so doing possibly carry out more than double what we might complete by sharing resources, ideas and people. The effect will most likely be exponential.

So this year we really like to look around us, and begin to make friends with others who share our values and dreams. We know they are out there, and we have already started to meet a few. It is an exciting moment for us, and who knows quite where it will bring us. But it holds out a promise of new life, new possibilities and most especially, new friendships. And what could be better than that?
