TYPES OF COMMON ACCIDENTS AND HOW TO AVOID THEM
In New York City car accidents are more common and on the rise. Just this Sunday, New York City residents were hospitalized after their car flipped onto the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway in Lacey Township.
Police reports indicate that a resident of Staten Island, N.Y., drove off the northbound side of the highway and the car flipped shortly before 8 a.m. at milepost 72.3. Unfortunately and with no surprise booze may have been a factor in the crash.
What does it take to flip a car?
In one story a teenage girl flipped her car 4 times and landed upside down. She remembers hitting the median, then a pole and her car rolling 4 times. She had been drinking, and had fallen asleep at the wheel. Can anyone say irresponsible and negligent?
Dozing off, drinking and driving; anyone who walks away from these types of accidents are lucky. Rollovers are one type of accident where seatbelts make a huge difference. If you are belted in, you’ll have quite an interesting ride. If you’re not, be flung throughout the car like a ragdoll. Rollovers are only one reason to buckle up. They will save your life.
Let’s not forget the tanker rollover in the Bronx on Tuesday. The accident snarled caused a incredible traffic jam. The vehicle carrying dry ice lost control on the New England Thruway around 2:30 a.m., flipped down an embankment and spilling dry ice out onto already-foggy streets.
This accident could of have had far worse consequences than it had. The screeching crash woke people who lived nearby, and the cargo reduced visibility on the I-95. The truck driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He had lost control when another car cut him off. Bad weather, slippery roads, and poor visibility all played a part in this accident.
A tractor-trailer overturned on Thursday on Route 490, snarling traffic for hours. The truck tipped over on 490 westbound just before the Frederick Douglass-Susan B Anthony Bridge. The driver reportedly suffered a broken collarbone; reported cause of the accident, traveling at an unsafe speed.
The crash damaged the trucks gas tank, and police shut down all three lanes, causing major backups on the expressway, and adjacent city streets. This is similar to an accident last fall when a truck was going too fast in the area and overturned.
How much of a warning do drivers need when the weather is treacherous and driving conditions become dangerous? Texting, drinking and driving, dozing at the wheel, excessive speed all were factors in these accidents. A driver should count his or her blessing to survive these types of crashes.
