One should also ensure that the feeder is easy to clean and hence the removable ones are the best option. It is very easy to clean. One needs to simply brush off the loose seeds and spray weak bleach solution followed by water to rinse it off. After drying, it can be refilled.
The mounting of the platform is also very important. They should always be in your sight. Window mounted, pole mounted and hanging types are available. Recycled ones are excellent and right for now of course.
Another popular use of platform is for catching spilled seeds and seed hulls. It is done by placing them under a hopper and tube feeders. But, in this case, it is very important to ensure that it has removable bottom for easy cleaning.
