The vast majority of people when asked this question… “What is your goal this year?” would most likely say something like this… “I want to earn more money” or “I want to lose weight.” or “I want to exercise more”.
Note that all these are NOT goals, they are merely vague statements. Instead of using these statements, you should be saying “I want to earn more money this year by creating at least one new product a month!” or “I want to lose 30 pounds this year by eating healthy diets and exercising for at least 30 minutes a day!”.
See the difference? Goals are focused and achievable. Therefore, you will need to write down all the action steps in details and explain how you are going to achieve your goals. If you just say that “you want to lose weight” then you would not be committed to what you said. You would most likely forget what you have just said.

Make a List:
The first step is to make a list by writing down your goals. When you are writing down your goals, ask yourself why do you want this particular goal? What value does this particular goal bring to your life? By asking these questions to yourself, you will have some sense whether the goal is truly important in your life or just a short-term craze. Do not be confused craze as an important goal that you must accomplish otherwise you will end up wasting your time achieving useless things in life.
List Down the Action Steps:
Actions speak louder than words! Every goal that is worth accomplishing must be accompanied by the Action Steps or how are you going to get the goal. You must take concrete action steps to achieve the goals you set. A goal without action is just a dream that would never be realized. So, I cannot emphasize this point enough, make sure you think about the action steps you need to accomplish your goals. Without action, nothing is going to move!
Assign Timeline to Your Goals:
This is also very important! You must always assign a timeline to each of your goals. A goal without a timeline is just a wish and you won’t feel motivated to get it going. A goal without a timeline will never get realized – it is just like a dream you had yesterday. So, make sure you assign a specific timeline to each important goal that you want to achieve so that you have a sense of urgency and responsibility.
Motivate Yourself:
We all need a push sometime! This is normal, however, you should not allow yourself to stay unmotivated for a long period of time. You must always add fuel to your motivation because without this, you may not have the energy to carry out the action steps that you have set for achieving your goals. Do not be complacent! You must do what is neccessary every day to move yourself closer to your goals. I am not suggesting you to work non-stop 24 hours a day. We are not robot, we need to take rest. My point here is, we must know how to strike a balance between work and play!
