Wedding Planning Doesn’t Have To Be Stressful

With the exception of my cake topper that got left behind and a handful of raindrops when it was time for our pre-wedding photo shoot, everything went without problems! I still have a couple of photographs where you can see my gumboots protruding from under my wedding dress. But it all forms part of a very special recollection and if I could do it all once again, I would do nothing at all otherwise!

Two of my friends (two different couples) recently got engaged and I am finding it hard to believe why they are so stressed out about the big day! They have virtually adopted the approach of “I wish the day is over already” and I am finding it difficult to grasp why!

After a couple of muffins over tea with them, I have come to the conclusion that planning for a wedding and reception is a huge task for some first time brides as they purely have no idea where to begin! I hope the next handful of tips will be able to shed some light on a sometimes alarming process:

Decide on a budget. This is the the very first thing you should do before you even start thinking about the perfect location and the perfect gown. There are a number of expenses associated with a wedding and without careful planning you can easily end up with a number of things left to pay for and no available funds!

Set the date. Setting your wedding date is the 2nd most important part of your wedding planning. Every single thing that you do and plan will be centered around the date in question, therefore you cannot start scheduling a band for the first dance if you haven’t confirmed a definite date!

Secure a venue. Some weddings venues are booked months ahead of time (particularly the good ones!) and finding the perfect venue will often time also influence the date you decide on for your wedding. Be very careful when you are evaluating venues – make sure that you understand what is included with the venue hire and what other additional costs will be involved.

Decide on your marriage officer. Choosing the right individual to perform the wedding service is a very significant task. Make certain that both the husband to be and the bride to be are comfortable with the choice. A marriage officer can add such a personal touch to a ceremony if he/she has walked a path with the husband and wife, therefore you should regard this as another important factor of your wedding preparation process.

Pick your photographer. Do not forget that your wedding service only lasts for a few hours and your honeymoon for a few days. There should be something to remember this extremely important day by and for that reason it is vital to find a good wedding photographer!

Take a deep breath, calm down, and enjoy planning the most important day of your life!
