How to Prepare a Wall For Plastering

So you may wish to know how you can plaster a wall, maybe you would like to have a go yourself? Properly for individuals who are brave enough when you begin plastering a wall you need to make sure your preparation it done correctly.

Also you need to understand what type of qualifications you’re plastering on weather it’s plasterboard, painted wall, or artex what you’ll learn it that what I’m explaining for your walls applies to ceilings also.

Plasterboard background

This is the simplest background to organize as all you should do is make certain the screw’s are correctly screwed in so the board has no movement.
Then another thing you should do is make sure you scrim all of the joints, what is scrim? It’s a self adhesive tape which sticks over the joints you can purchase this from any building merchant. And that’s it your able to go.

Painted walls

I’d just prefer to point out that when you have wallpaper on your walls then all of it needs to arrive off and I imply all of it even the tiny bits left after you’ve used it off.
so again for your painted walls or walls that have all the wallpaper off you should have some P.V.A glue to can purchase this from and building merchants like wickes or B&Q to get the idea, So once you’ve your P.V.A glue you need to pour some of it into a bucket, I use them small black buckets you find in wickes, pour a quarter into the bucket and add some water to thin it down.

Mix the water in properly and now use a roller and give your wall a coat of P.V.A make sure you cover every bit of the wall, as soon as you’ve finished go again to the beginning and see if the wall is bone dry if it is then I would put one more coat on it, if it still quite wet then one coat will do wait until the wall is dry and you’re ready to begin plastering your wall.
Artex walls

My favourite (NOT). Right first off you need to use a scrapper and scrap all of the high points off so you can get it as flat as you can, do not use a wallpaper scraper you use to take wallpaper off this will not do it you’ll need a big bad boy with about a 6 inches width razor blade you are able to get these in wickes or your local D.I.Y place. Wear a Mask when doing this after you’ve finished P.V.A your walls like I mentioned above.

And that’s about it, so now you know how to prepare a wall for plastering. For more info visit plasterers in st albans website.
