How to Effectively Use Mind Maps
Originally started as a tool to put classroom notes in an organized visual manner, the concept of mind mapping has undergone a sea of change. As the technology has undergone change, there are many mind mapping tools now available online to aid in this process.
Drawing a mind map is a very easy task. You start with a central theme or basic idea. The idea is drawn as a picture or image. In bold letters write the idea of the central theme on the image.
Now draw 4 to 6 thick lines radiating from the central image all around covering the whole paper. Preferably keep equal spacing for the radiating lines. If possible use different colors for each of the lines. Each line represents a branch. Write in bold letters the key words to represent the key topics on each branch.
Draw more branches from each of the main branches as sub branches or sub topics. Add sub keywords on these additional sub branches.
Now add fresh images or pictures or write up to represent various thoughts in the various branches. Add key words on these branches. These key words are sub topics.
If necessary add further sub branches to these sub branches till all your thoughts and ideas are fully represented on the map.
To get an impact and immediate attention a few rules will help to make the mind map more useful. First, resort to the use of various symbols to represent different thought that you have jotted down, and the symbols would be easy to be used often. Use key word to represent an idea and put boldly these key words on the side lines. Make use of arrows to attract attention and to show leads. Use different colors to represent ideas that you want to be phased in importance. Create areas demarcated by bold boundary lines to separate out themes and different ideas. Use pictures to highlight moods and attract attention.
The use of mind mapping is by no means limited to class room notes. The scope is limitless. It is only your own initiative and imagination that can restrict you to the use of mind map on any event or any topic or any business.
