New train Project for Sai Devotees

Thousands of devotees visit to Shirdi Sai Baba in Nasik every year. Recently a devotee has offered the union railway ministry with a Rs. 50 Crore proposal to operate a train between Mumbai and Shirdi.

The plan has been send to railway minister Mamta Banerjee and railway board chairman Vivek Sahai by the Mumbai based businessman, Rajesh Nihak. According to the proposal, the train will be having eight to nine compartments that would be taking around 900 pilgrims to saint destination and that too in the same fare as that of a Volvo bus.

As said by Rajesh Nihak in an interview, the proposal has been discussed long with the railway admiration. Moreover, it is along the prestigious royal train of India i.e. Palace on Wheels, and would be covering the seven-hour journey in two-and-a-half hour for the Sai’s devotees. When a survey was conducted with the buses running between Mumbai & Shirdi it was found that it takes around seven to eight hours, with the acceptance of proposal the comfort level of Sai’s devotees will increase and there will be a drastic cut in the travel time.

The railway ministers are showing positive attitude as till now. For operation of trains, the railway board will take a policy decision on private sector participation. The project is also supported Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, agriculture minister and also represents Shirdi assembly constituency Shirdi Saibaba trust chairman Jayant Sasane. According to them, it is the need for devotees as the existing railway facilities are grossly inadequate, and this would be a real gift to devotees.

Domestic as well as international tourists from worldwide visit the holy destination the project is of great use and appreciation. In addition, new trains can also run from north of the country to make easy for tourists, as suggested by the Jayant Sasane.
