Violin Tips For Beginners

Finding great violin tips for beginners is an essential part of your progress as you begin your journey of, shall we say, musical awakening! Finding good tips on technique, music and good practice will ensure that your progress is quick, fun and exciting.

Here is my number one essential tip for beginners – develop good sight reading skills.

Sight reading is the technique or the skill of looking at your music, being able to recognize and read each note instantly and then finding that note on your instrument with speed and ease. You could compare it to reading this article. Your eyes scan the words, subconsciously recognize them and then you’re able to verbalize them instantly.

You have developed your reading skills over time so that you can do this as an automated response. A good musician can do exactly the same whilst reading the treble clef, with a violin tucked under their chin.
My recommendation is to spend some time without an instrument and focus purely on note recognition. If you cannot recognize a note quick enough you will not be able to play it quickly either. A good idea is to buy or make some flashcards with a note on the front and the answer on the back, then get a friend to hold up the cards as you name them as speedily as possible.

This is something I did a very early on in my musical career. In fact my first teacher made me make my own flashcards after my second lesson. Within no time at all I could read music very quickly and my sight reading had a good foundation.
Finding good violin tips for beginners is an essential part of your progress. So keep researching and keep practicing.
