General Operation for the SL500 Server Lift

A smooth runnung data centre requires things to run efficiently and safely. As with anything, there are tools and equipment that can assist to make the data centre more efficient and safe.

For lifting and relocating servers then there is only one tool for the job – the SL500 server lift. In order to operate this piece of machinery and to make sure that it is functioning at peak levels, I have prepared a short primer that will walk you through the basic options that this lift brings to the table.

One of the first things that you should do when you first get the SL500 lifter is to familiarize yourself with the various aspects of this piece of machinery. Knowing the limits of the server lift, such as its ability to lift 500 pounds to a maximum of 8 feet can help you to know what you’re able to do with this item. Another aspect of the lifter is that it does not only lift servers as the name implies, the lifter can lift any piece of equipment upto 500lbs, these may include batteries and UPS’s. The lifter does not only lift equipment in to racks but also removes equipment from racks and with the aid of loading straps also equipment from their boxes.

One of the key benefits of this server lift is the fact that it has a very narrow footprint. The platform itself is only 24 inches wide which easily allows you to navigate through a 26 inch opening between the server racks. Because the platform will travel to the right or the left approximately 6 inches, this allows you to seamlessly install the servers without any space between the server lift and the server rack.

As the equipment is delicate, the server lift can be locked in to position with the locking brakes to stop it moving once you have it positioned. When properly engaged, this will keep the server lift from travelling from side to side effectively.

All four of the castors are made so that they will easily roll and swivel. If you require the server lift to go straight then the front castors can be locked to allow more precise movement through thin isles. This lift is designed to be easily maneuvered through these areas.

There are plenty other features and benefits that makes the SL500 server lift the preferred choice for your data centre. You do not require any certification to operate the server lift and it comes assembled. You will instantly see a boost in the productivity and efficiency of your data centre, along with reducing the possibility that you will have any work-related mishaps that result in injury due to lifting these hefty items.
