Payouts to good causes will achieve ?1.5 billion in the financial year, while prize money will achieve ?2.9 billion. Since the UK National Lottery formed back in November 1994, a total of ?1.1 billion, in unclaimed lottery prizes has been handed over to charity in the United kingdom. This ?1.1 billion figure even includes an unclaimed jackpot of ?9.4 million, which is said to be the biggest unclaimed prize in UK National lotto history.
At present there are also 6 unclaimed millionaire raffle winning tickets which were bought in the following areas: South Lanarkshire, Blackburn, Stoke on Trent, London borough of Ealing, Leeds and Plymouth. So it would seem whilst tickets sales are up, there are a lot of people not claiming winnings, this could be due to losing a ticket, forgetting to check it, or not even looking closely at the results.
