It Is Necessary To Protect Your Outdoor Wood Table Properly
If you decide on leaving your outdoor wood table in your yard all year around you need to be sure that it is properly maintained. Water and wood will never make good companions when it comes to furniture, sheds or other outdoor products. When water gets into wood it makes the wood to expand. Then while the wood dries out it shrinks back to its initial size. This continual cycle will finally cause the wood to warp and crack.
To stop this happening you need to treat your outdoor wood table properly. This means using a wood sealant if one has not already been applied. If you have any decorative works on the table made from metal, like an umbrella pole or the table legs, those may also need to be protected according to what metal has been chosen. Iron especially is prone to rust and aluminum shows up white marks when it has been put through water.
By coating the wood with a stain or wood paint you seal the pores in the wood thus preventing the water from getting inside. Before you start painting, make sure any knots in the wood are carefully taken care of as these are the weak spots. Knots have to be properly closed before you start closing the rest of the piece. You need to paint on the stain very carefully to be sure all the holes are filled up. When finished appropriately the rain will just flow off the wood without leading to any damage. Most tables will require treatment every couple of years depending on the weather condition and the quality of the underlying wood. Hardwood is more resistant to the weather than many soft woods.
You can consider whether to try a clean stain or a tinted type. Some people choose to paint their outdoor wood table white when others go for the more natural elegance of wood.
