Decorate Your Large Room – Snug and Cozy
A room today is usually very large, with high ceilings and wood flooring, at least that what most people seem to want. It’s nice to have these large rooms but most of the time the decor makes the room seems cold.
Most of us want a cozy, homey atmosphere. Here are a few secrets you can use to make your bigger space, cozy. When you consider paint, think darker colors. One of the reasons the darker, richer tones are more popular today is because they bring warmth to a space that feels a bit chilly.
If the walls are a lighter color you’ll feel that the area is never ending. This is because light will reflect off of lighter colored walls rather than darker, richer colors. If you have those high ceilings and you feel that they are too far away from the rest of the room, try painting them a darker color rather than the traditional white.
Large sized plants and large sized accessories will help to bring your room in and make it cozier. If you use smaller sizes you will have a cluttered effect.
If your room is large enough you can make it seem like its a few rooms in one. You can make one area just for television and another for an office or even a sitting area to read. This will make the room seem as if it’s not just one but two spaces. It’s a great idea as well so you’ll have an extra room in the house which you planned on making into a reading room or even an office.
If you decide to create the large space into a few different groupings, add a few area rugs into the mix. You don’t need them to match but at least make them around the same theme. Place one in each grouping and you’ll notice the cozy feeling coming into play.
When planning to group areas in a large room and add area rugs, make sure you aren’t crowding the flooring. For instance, if you have a 12×24 area you could choose two 8×10 or one 6×9 and one 9×12. Two different sizes will break up the room as well and make it look more stylish.
The area rugs that you choose can be very similar in their pattern, color and texture. The closer rugs are in these characteristics, the more cohesive the rugs will feel. Using area rugs that are exactly the same size and too close together will tend to split the room so one bigger than the other is a better choice.
If your area rugs are exactly the same or just too similar, you will lose the allure of your groupings. The ultimate choice would be a large area rug with a border design and the smaller with an overall all design that carries the same colors but in an inverse design. Once you have placed your rugs, you can sit back and enjoy your new cozy atmosphere.
