The possibilities of social marketing, in this day and age, are limitless. With a wide range of fresh, all-encompassing capabilities, social media is being used in a number of unique and creative ways. In the last ten years, we’ve witnessed memorable videos pop up in company blogs, TV commercials and social media sites all with one goal in mind, to capture audiences in a less-than traditional fashion while generating buzz around who they are and what they are selling. So, if you are new to this marketing approach and are thinking of taking the video avenue for your business (but still need that extra “social” push), say no more. Here are my top 5 video tips for social marketing.
1. Focus on video content, not cost. The last thing you want to do is throw away your money by producing a large, over-the-top campaign. If you haven’t noticed, most of the successful viral videos out there are simply Flip camera or other low resolution footage. Keep it simple and remember that all you need is a clear and concise message. Keeping the material basic and easy to understand is usually what stands out the most and gets more recognition.
2. Go easy on promotional or sales messaging. Social media users do not want to see a whole lot of sales pitches in your content as it is seen as a huge turn-off. Granted, you are trying to market your company or product, do so in a more subtle and indirect matter. For example, if you are trying to get people to talk about your company/product.simply ask them what they think about your videos’ content. That way, you not only get consumers talking about your brand, products, etc. but you now know how others are responding.
3. Offer Value. As value is seen differently by so many, keep in mind that offering value to people could be a funny story, interesting content or maybe just something they can share with friends and family. It could be as simple as producing a short video about frequently asked questions as people don’t usually remember how someone solved their problem/concern but the emotion they feel, when someone has answered their question(s). Be creative with this approach and remember, if you aren’t offering people real value, you are just marketing at them, not to them.
4. Create a Video Blog (Vlog). If you think blogging is fun, just wait until you try vlogging! How do you think your traditional marketing campaign would fare in the online vlogoshpere? You could keep the momentum of a campaign going by including vital information on your vlog and uploading daily. After the duration of your campaign, chat live with customers via Skype, and let others have the opportunity to listen to your thoughts and comments about the results. Not only will people come back to visit but they know they are getting fresh and engaging content every time.
5. Choose YouTube. Don’t be afraid of YouTube. So many naysayers may think that creating a YouTube channel is not as engaging as other forms of marketing, but that is not true at all. There is always something on the YouTube site for everyone’s interest so use this to your advantage. Include your YouTube videos on to your company’s Facebook page as well as on your blog site to engage across platforms and establish your social media presence now, it’s that simple.
