Cheap Laptops Family Favorites Or Just Necessity
It was only a few years ago that a decent computer would run us well over $1,000. Many consumers even thought these were the “cheap laptops”. This wasn’t for a high end graphically intense model with gigs upon gigs of ram and speeds rivaling the speed of sound. This was an computer for average work. If you needed anything better, you’d be paying some serious money closer to the $2,000 range, and frequently ending up with gadgets you won’t use.
Depending on what your needs are will depend on how cheap you can go, but even a top notch Windows based laptop can be had for under $800 with all the bells and whistles of its predecessors only a few years before.
Even a more powerful laptop can still be had for about $600 – still pretty cheap in the scheme of things. Add a manufacture’rs rebate or a great sale, and you are definitely ahead of the game.
Some stores even sell refurbs – models that have been traded in or even returned for some reason. These are for all intents and purposes brand new. They still have their original full warranty but they might have a tiny scratch on the case or they might be running XP instead of Vista (which for some people is an absolute dream come true!).
If you are shopping guru who refuses to pay full price for anything, you’re in luck. Sales are all over the place for laptops in all price ranges. With the sales price and manufacturer’s rebates, you can walk away with a real beauty for under $350 in the right place at the right time.
Also check places like Craigslist for used items. Again, there’s nothing with these except the owners wanted new more powerful models for whatever reasons, and the ones they are selling are not only in excellent condition, they probably come with pretty cool software. NOTE: Most software actually should be completely removed from a hard drive before selling the computer; if the software stays, it is violating the original licensing agreement. However, most people don’t pay any attention to this. You could very well find yourself a new, powerful computer loaded with the software you want and need – for no additional money.
Before putting any of your files onto a computer you buy second hand, do a complete security scan for viruses, spyware, etc. This might be the reason they’re selling it – it’s been infected with a virus they can’t get rid of.
