Hudson Valley – New Honda Clothing Line Celebrates History
Recently, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced the launching of the Honda Heritage Clothing Collection. Although it might be confusing that a car company is selling clothing to the customers of Hudson Valley new Honda dealerships, history tells us that it is nothing out of the ordinary for Honda to sell clothing.
Back in the 1970s, Honda began selling clothing that featured what was becoming its increasingly well-known logo. The company first came to America, specifically to California, in 1959 as a motorcycle manufacturer. The company enjoyed huge success thanks to its fuel-efficient motorcycles. From here, the company introduced its first automobile, titled the N600, in 1970. Three years later the Civic was born, which remains an extremely popular vehicle today. The Civic created a loyal fan and customer base for Honda and these fans wanted to display their affection for the brand in ways beyond just driving their vehicles. Thus, American Honda Motor Co. introduced a clothing line that featured the popular Honda logo.
Therefore, the newly released collection of clothing restyles some of the old Honda clothing line favorites. Designs span from the 70s and the 80s and initially will consist of three tee shirt designs, costing about $40 each. More styles are expected this spring, however, including leather jackets, nylon racing jackets, windbreakers and vests. Currently, the tee shirts can be purchased at www.lockerloop.com.
Steve Center, who is the vice presidents of American Honda’s national marketing operations said, “Honda is excited to celebrate its heritage by recreating styles and accessories from the past. We hope that fans of Honda and vintage clothing will celebrate with us through the Honda Heritage Clothing Collection. American Honda was founded in Los Angeles in 1959, and the fact that these pieces are being designed and produced by partners in Los Angeles is a perfect fit for these historic pieces.”
The clothing line comes as Honda dealerships around the country, such as your local Tarrytown Honda dealer and your Hudson Valley new Honda dealer have been selling cars incredibly well in the first month of 2011. Sales were up 13.2% from January of last year. The top selling Honda model was the versatile CR-V, which sold 68.9% more times than the first month of last year. Additionally, the all-new 2011 Honda Odyssey mini-van experienced an impressive month, with 7,022 sales. Finally, Honda’s larger vehicles are all the rage as the Pilot also sold 37.8% more times than this time last year.
“January is traditionally a challenging sales month after a strong year-end push, and we’re happy to see strong interest in our light trucks and small cars,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. “With the top-selling CR-V and all-new Odyssey selling extremely well, we look forward to growing our business further in 2011.”
